Set in 1950s Pittsburgh, a former Negro League player Troy Maxson, now working as a waste collector, struggles to provide for his family and come to terms with the events of his life. Troy deals with the struggles of raising a son with the same racial discrimination of the era, as he aspires to become a college football player. Their conflicting views and resentment, contribute to life changing events.
