This rarely screened wild and wacky comedy classic from 1957 written by William (The Ladykillers, It’s a Mad,Mad … World) , in the vein of Ealing comedies and the forerunner of Cinema Paradiso, offers a fun reminder of the what the movies were like before we all started driving to out-of-town complexes, owned by faceless corporations.
A young couple inherits a debt-ridden old movie theatre, appropriately nicknamed “The Flea Pit,” and the three eccentric senior citizens who work there.
