Reclaimed Voices is a documentary by African Youth Initiative which sheds light on the lives of South Sudanese and African-Australian experiences amidst the backdrop of rising youth crime in Melbourne and offers a counter-narrative to the mainstream media depictions of African-Australians. It is a gripping tale of grief, loss, hope and restoration that gives back agency and voice to a community which often feels marginalised and vilified. Reclaimed Voices follows the tale of Sabir Banek, a young man who was formerly involved in youth crime, and the Kot family, who were devastated by two losses within the span of six months. Follow their stories through Reclaimed Voices and become part of the movement.

AYI would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which Reclaimed Voices was filmed, edited and screened, and also on the lands depicted throughout the film.
